Stopping Staring At The House of Worth Gowns and Actually Doing Something About It

I made a new Pin Board, focused on gowns from The House of Worth. If you’re not familiar with them, they make amazing gowns, some of which are housed in museums. I’ve been staring at them for a while, but now I’m looking at it less as eye candy, and more as inspiration.

I keep coming back to the same gown over and over again. I find myself daydreaming about it when I am working on other projects.

Its is the Lilly Gown. Its circa 1896, and it lives in Paris at present. While that does leave me unable to go and visit it for the time being, I see it and I think that I would really, really like to wear it.

Obviously, I don’t have much of a need for a ball gown, but I could make it more modern and make it a usable piece. Black velvet is something that I already have, but I will also need to have a lot of other pieces to the puzzle if I am going to make this work, but first comes the biggest question.

What is the garment? Should I make a dress? A skirt set? I have to think a bit more, but I am leaning towards a knee length skirt with a wider (maybe flared) bottom. A touch of Worth.
